AS THE YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE

We still have approximately 30 students in need of sponsors. Here are a few of them.

Sponsoring a student at SMD School helps them build a brighter future while preserving their culture, language, and Buddhist way of life. For more information about sponsorship, visit https://himalayanchildren.org/kids-needing-sponsors/ or contact himalayanchildren@gmail.com (Shirley Blair), our director and fundraiser, for further details. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of these children, empowering the to help their communities when they grow up.

Photos from the Second-Term Exam Results Day at SMD

We presented the Second-Term Exam Results on 27th December.

Our students received their results for the second-term exams, and they all performed well. These days, some parents can read and write, which makes face-to-face meetings more effective for family members, children, and teachers. At this time of year, some families come down from the mountains, where it is bitterly cold, and often take the opportunity to go on pilgrimage. Our Grade 11 and 12 students assisted in welcoming parents and managing traffic during the event.

Glimpses of the December Meditation Session

Meditation Class Once a Month with Our Staff Monks

Every first Tuesday of the month, our entire school—teachers and students—comes together for a one-hour meditation session led by our staff monks. These sessions help everyone find mindfulness, calm, and a sense of connection. They also support the well-being of both students and teachers while strengthening the values of discipline and self-awareness in our daily lives. This shared practice creates a peaceful and supportive space for everyone to reflect, recharge, and grow together.

Our Friend John Morberg Took a Busload of Kids and Two Teachers for an Adventure in Bhaktapur

Our friend John Morberg organized a memorable trip for a busload of students and two teachers to Bhaktapur. He hired a local guide to ensure the children learned all about this historic city, famous for its skilled artisans and rich cultural heritage. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to John for his generosity and dedication to providing such valuable experiences for our students.

We Distributed new Sweaters and warm Jackets for our students

As the winter weather grows colder, we have distributed warm sweaters and jackets to all of our students. We would like to thank the Himalayan Children’s Fund (HCF), our nonprofit organization in the U.S., for making this possible. Excited faces lined up to receive the warm clothes, and some students shared their thoughts, expressing deep gratitude for the kindness and support that helps keep them warm during the cold months.

I feel very blessed at the moment. Fortunately, it was before Christmas & It is like an early Christmas gift for me. The School jackets & the sweaters are like a boon to me because this winter is very unbearable cold. I am very grateful.
