Our students are working hard in their Third Term Examinations, and we are confident their efforts will pay off. As we wrap up another academic year, we celebrate their dedication and achievements. SMD School’s mission is not only to educate but also to preserve Himalayan culture, language, and Buddhist way of life, empowering students to build a better future for themselves so they can help their communities when they grow up.

We wish all our students the very best in their exams and look forward to welcoming them back for another year of learning and growth!

The Saathi Project (SMD – Inter Community School Zurich): “Climbing the Mountain Together”

Thank You, Chungda Ghale, for Your Generosity and Love for SMD!

Chungda Ghale, one of our graduates, visits us often, usually during Losar. Losar is a time for family, reflection, and giving, and for Chungda Ghale (B411), it is also a time to reconnect with her SMD family. A former boarding student who spent many years at Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School (SMD), Chungda has always carried the spirit of SMD with her. She continues to support the younger generation of students, who like her come from remote Himalayan regions.

This year, on the second day of Losar, Chungda returned to SMD with a heart full of generosity. She sponsored all the meals and juice for breakfast, lunch, teatime, and supper – ensuring that the students enjoyed warm and nourishing meals during the festive period. Not only that, she also brought sports equipment, giving our students more opportunities to play and stay active during the holiday.

At SMD, our students come from some of the most remote and challenging regions of the Himalayas. Despite hardships, they embrace learning, culture, and community with resilience and gratitude. Chungda’s kindness is a reminder of how deeply connected our alumni remain to the school and to each other.

From the entire SMD family, we extend our heartfelt thank you to Chungda Ghale for her unwavering generosity and support. Her thoughtfulness and continued connection to SMD inspire us all. We wish her happiness and success in all her endeavors.

GoFundMe to Help Classmate Come Home

Ukesh Magar and Choegyal Dorje, our graduates and passionate marathoners, are running 40 km to support their schoolmates at Shree Mangal Dvip Boarding School (SMD) for Himalayan Children in Kathmandu, Nepal. SMD provided them with the education and opportunities to reach high school, and they are deeply grateful. To give back, they have chosen to channel their passion for marathons into a cause that helps their fellow students. “Education Changed Our Lives – Now We’re Paying It Forward with a 40km Run!”

Their campaign also helps Susmita and Tsering Dolkar, our overseas alumni, fly back to Nepal. The girls are studying in Canada on generous high school scholarships but need financial support for their flights. They have already raised $845. Read Choegyal and Ukesh’s thoughts on their dedication to the marathon and their mission to support SMD students.

Choegyal Dorje – “Hi everyone, My name is Choegyal Dorje Lama I’m in Grade 12. Running has changed my life. It’s not just a sport for me – it’s a passion, a discipline, and a way to push my limits. I’ve been fortunate enough to win marathons and achieve things I never thought possible – but none of this would have happened without the support and opportunities I received from SMD School.

It was here that I first discovered my love for running. All SMD family encouraged and believed in me, and my school provided me with the resources and platform to pursue my dreams. Now, as a marathon winner, I want to use my talent to give back to the place that gave me so much.

Ukesh Magar – “Namaste  everyone, My name is Ukesh Magar and I’m a Grade 11 student. Education is more than just knowledge – it’s the light that illuminates our path, the hope that transforms lives, and the opportunity to dream bigger. For me, SMD was that light. It taught me to see life as a world full of opportunities. It gave me hope when I needed it most, and it shaped me into the person I am today.

While I can never fully repay the generosity and impact SMD has had on my life, I want to honour it in my own small way. This run is not just a physical challenge, it’s a symbol of my gratitude and a testament to the difference SMD has made in the lives of countless individuals like me. We have always believed that education is a key to brighter future and we want to do our part to ensure that. Running 40 km will not be easy, but knowing that every step we take will make difference to our school makes it all worth it.

This 40 km run is our way of saying thank you. But more than that, it’s about creating opportunities for others. We want to influence our fellow smders to discover their passions, chase their dreams, and achieve greatness.
