Tibetan Workshop at SMD

Workshop by Tibetan Department Teachers

We hold workshops organized by each subject department, typically towards the end of the month. In these department workshops, teachers dedicate a few weeks to preparing for their sessions. During the workshops, they not only share their experiences but also provide valuable insights and information on effective teaching practices. Essentially, these workshops serve as teacher training sessions conducted by each subject department.

On June 30th, the Teachers of the Tibetan Department gave their workshop which was a valuable experience to all our teachers. The workshop aimed to enhance their skills and knowledge in various aspects of teaching, providing them with important insights and inspiration.

One of the central themes explored during the workshop was the qualities of being a good teacher. The teachers engaged in thoughtful discussions on the fundamental attributes that contribute to effective teaching. They emphasized the significance of patience, empathy, and the ability to establish strong connections with students. The workshop participants acknowledged that a good teacher should possess a genuine passion for their subject matter.

Moreover, the workshop delved into effective teaching methods that have been proven to yield positive results in the classroom.

In addition to practical teaching techniques, the workshop also aimed to inspire the teachers on a personal level. Our Tibetan Department Teachers shared some inspirational topics, including motivational stories and anecdotes shared by monastics and educators.

Yangchen Dolma (Left) with her siblings

Landslides and Nepali Generosity: Though it is a drier monsoon than usual, the onslaught of monsoon rains is bringing floods and landslides. Homecomer Yangchen Dolma Tamang on scholarship in Canada (shown here on the right, with her sisters when they first joined SMD) trekked up to Jumla to see her parents, but a landslide blocked the way. Villagers nearby took everyone into their homes for three days – real generosity when villagers are struggling to feed their own families.
