PRAYERS FOR KHENCHEN THRANGU RINPOCHE

Medicine Buddha and Tara Prayers are Being done at SMD for our Founder

The entire Thrangu family have been united in prayer, ever since our beloved founder, Thrangu Rinpoche fell ill at the beginning of the month. He was hospitalized on May 6th in ICU in critical condition. He has rallied and is stable, but is still in the hospital.

The monks and nuns are saying prayers in relay, 24 hours a day. At Rinpoche’s school, the children above Class four unite in daily prayers for Rinpoche’s swift recovery. We were touched to see some of the younger children who can read Tibetan asked for permission to join the older ones. His Holiness The 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ugyen Thinley Dorji composed long-life prayers for our Rinpoche’s swift recovery.  [Rinpoche’s Long Life Prayer Video] [Download PDF]

Poem Dedicated to Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche

Urgen Tsomo, our talented poet, with deep admiration and gratitude, poured her thoughts and emotions into crafting a beautiful poem for our founder, Thrangu Rinpoche.

As she passionately recited the poem, she meticulously selected words that captured the essence of our founder’s journey, kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Each line was crafted with care, weaving together a tapestry of appreciation and inspiration.  Hear the poem in YouTube: Urgen’s Poem dedicated to Thrangu Rinpoche

Hostel Night 2023 – Event for welcoming New Boarding Kids into Hostel

Every year, we welcome new boarders to the Thrangu family. Of course, our welcome includes song and dance, ‘khatas’ (traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf) of welcome and a gift for each new student. The new kids introduced themselves to thunderous applause and cheers from the older kids. Watch short Clip of the New Kids being Welcomed

Celebrating the 2567th Buddha Purnima (Buddha’s Birthday)

May 5th was Buddha Jayanti – marking the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana (passing) of the Buddha. Buddha Purnima is a time for Buddhists to reflect on the life and teachings of the Buddha. It is considered one of the holiest days in Buddhism, and devotees engage in various religious and spiritual activities.

Our day started with prayers and then the whole school, with the band, went to the Great Boudhanath Stupa which is around 12 minutes from SMD to ‘do kora’ – circumambulating the stupa with prayers.
